Giddy Up!!

This weekend Craig and Kelli took us horseback riding!
We started up the Alpine loop and rode up behind Redford's property. It was 2 hours of the most beautiful scenery ever! We were up so high, had the most gorgeous view of the mountains, the leaves changing...not to mention a HUGE elk right near us. (5 or six point) We would do elk calls and hear them call back to us. It was something I had never experienced before. It was amazing.
Greg is on Magic and I rode Misty. I told her I had children waiting for me at home and to please be a good girl...she was! I hadn't ridden horses for years, but I wasn't nervous once. She was such a great horse.
Me and Kelli!

This was right where we saw the huge elk.

We came upon this shack. Kelli told me it was built years ago by Brian Wimmer. Sound familiar? Robert Redford had him build it, when he was young and worked for him.

Inside is this sign.
It got pretty dang cold! And we had to be quiet so we wouldn't scare the elk. I don't think I have gone so long with out speaking in my life. I was beginning to have with drawls. Coming back we were startled by a really loud sound we thought was elk but was actually wild turkeys up in the trees. We also took the horses down some really steep tiny trails. It was such an adventure.

The last memories of riding horses were with my life long friend Terra. They include feeding Stormy her favorite candy...Mambas, Blacky bucking me off on Lovers Lane and Thunder sprinting towards a barb wire fence then ending in a dead stop right in front of it...throwing me off over her head. I had bloody palms from pulling the reins so hard and a grape fruit size bruise on my inner thigh! Remember the good ole' days Terra?

Kelli spotted this baby horny toad and jumped off her horse and caught him. I don't know how she spotted him, he was tiny and was exactly the same color as the rocks. Pretty cute though. My girls would have loved it.
Thanks Kelli and Craig!
It was so fun to do something new and exciting! And I love my new buddy Misty, she was good to this inexperienced cowgirl!

What a great adventure. Looks like a great time to go. I would love go hiking up there before it is too late and the beautiful colors are still around. So glad that your girls have a mom that was not bucked off and broken up. Looks soo peaceful.

Oh the days. We liked to pretend that we knew what we were doing with horses...I guess our experiences will show different:). But oh how those horses loved candy!
